Assessment of Student Learning:

Four tests will be given at announced intervals to help students assess their absorption of the material. These tests will be for student feedback only. A final exam will be a compilation of the previous tests and will be taken in August, 2010. Students must score 80% on the final exam in order to be given credit for 126 hours of instruction in play therapy.

Learning methods: PowerPoint presentations, experiential exercises, reading and class discussion. Optional practicum in year two or students may practice skills in their own clinical setting.

Learning Objectives: Each student will

understand the history of play therapy
learn to use Axline’s Eight Principles of Non-directive play therapy
be able to identify play from three developmental levels
interpret the human figure drawing
interpret the kinetic family drawing
learn to use play as a family assessment tool
learn other play techniques to aid in child and family assessment
appreciate the child’s use of metaphor to express their conflict
gain a beginning ability to interpret metaphor
become comfortable using modeling clay in play therapy
become comfortable using puppetry in play therapy
become comfortable using role play in play therapy
understand the psychodynamics underlying the victim of sexual abuse
understand the psychodynamics underlying the traumatized child
understand the psychodynamics underlying the bereaved child
learn how to apply play therapy principles to special populations
gain mastery in assessment of the family system
be able to integrate play therapy and family therapy
gain a working knowledge and practice of applying play techniques to family therapy
develop a working knowledge of biological attachment
gain theoretical understanding of how dyadic psychotherapy works
learn to apply play techniques in dyadic psychotherapy
gain confidence in his/her own play therapy skills
become a highly effective play therapist

Year One: 135 hours of instruction in play therapy

$2400.00 payable in 4 installments of $600.00 each due September 1, 2014, January 15, 2015, April 15, and June 15, 2015.

or Purchase the Play Therapy Training Package which includes the one year of training plus 35 hours of play therapy supervision needed to become a Registered Play Therapist. Fee is $3200.00 if paid in full by 9-1-14.
